Brazil: on arriving, reuniting, and celebrating Easter
written by Kim Still
Feliz Pascoa! That’s “Happy Easter” in Portuguese.
After spending most of Saturday traveling, the Brazil team made it safely to Rio de Janeiro bright and early this morning. Unfortunately, a few of our bags, including Rob’s, did not. We were assured that they will be on the next flight to Rio, so hopefully we will see them in the morning.
After arriving at our pousada, we met up with our friends and full-time missionaries in Rio, Eric and Suzana Papp and Jessica Fleshman. We set out with them to visit the Christ the Redeemer statue. It was a great chance to take in some stunning views of the city we will be serving in over the next week, as well as a good chance to catch up with our church family serving here in Rio. Like all of God’s creation, Rio is a city that testifies to God’s beauty, might and power. Staring out over this city nestled into beautiful mountains and surf, it is easy to be in awe of the blessings the Lord has poured out in this city.
In the evening, we ate dinner at and worshipped with Igreja do Redentor (Redeemer Church) and were even blessed by an Easter performance by some of the children.
Tomorrow we will host our first day of VBS in the city of São Gonçalo. Please pray that as we share the gospel with the children of São Gonçalo that hearts would be forever changed by hearing about God’s great love for them.
We are so thankful for everyone who is supporting us and praying for us from afar. Please continue to pray for God to be glorified in our time here.
