Brazil update: Day 5
by Nate Gutwein
Today we had a later start than the past couple of days. We were able to rest from a very long day yesterday and spend time as a team talking and having a time of prayer and devotions. After that, Jay picked us up and we headed towards the rehabilitation center where we would be for a couple of hours.
When we arrived at the rehab center, we were given a tour of the facility. We then held a chapel where Sam and Tony led worship, Josh preached, and Michael and Carl shared their testimonies. In this we were able to encourage these men in song and in word. Josh preached on Ephesians 4:17-24, that these men no longer have to live without hope. That only in Christ they can have hope. Through the testimonies, Carl and Michael were able to encourage the men by explaining to them how God has rescued them and how they now have a hope in Jesus.
We were given some extra time at the end to hang out and encourage the men there. We were able to pray with some of them and talk and smile as we fought the language barrier. We ended the day at the rehab center with a game of soccer and it was a blast to be able to play and encourage the men in this way.
During the evening, Jay and Luciane Bauman had us over for dinner. It was amazing to be in their company, eat the delicious food that Luciane prepared for us, and to be able to pick at Jay’s brain as we got to know him better and as he shared more with us about his heart for Brazil and what God is doing here.
