English Camp at Soma Fuchu Church in Tokyo, Japan.

Karis church is a church the longs to see the gospel reach the ends of the earth. We are a church that believes in churches planting churches. One of the ways we put that vision into action is continuing to send out missionaries to partner with other church plants across the world. Drew and Megumi Glosson currently serve as missionaries to Japan and are partnered with Soma Fuchu in the heart of Tokyo, Japan. Below is a recent update from Drew and Meg. Would you pray for God's work in Japan?

English Camp

English camp is a big event we do every summer as a church to bless our city. Many parents want their children to learn English but it can be pricey. A couple years ago Soma Fuchu saw an opportunity to be a blessing by partnering with our global partners to provide quality, affordable English fun for our community. This year was the third year of English camp. We were blessed to have two teams come and serve with us. One team from Village Church in Victoria, Canada and one team from Hallows Church in Seattle, WA. We capped the camp at 65 kids but could have easily added more which was a huge blessing. All of this came together with no advertising other than word of mouth, which is a testament to the Lord’s sovereignty.

Drew served as coordinator during the camp while Meg watched over our jet-lagged little boys. Everyone at Soma Fuchu pitched in and helped serve during the week. It was a great opportunity for us to grow as a church family as we served together. It was also a good opportunity for Drew to learn where and what he lacks in leadership. There were a few difficult moments for him during the camp but through God’s grace and the love of our church family he was able to repent and continue to seek to be more Christ-like.  Please continue to pray for the families that attended the camp. Pray that they would get connected with other families from our church and become part of one of our missional communities.

Translating Gospel Resources into Japanese

The other big news for August is that Megumi finished translating the Saturate Field Guide, a guide to launching Missional Communities. This is the first of many resources we hope to provide for the Church in Japan. It’s a resource we are excited about and pray that it will be a blessing. Please pray for Megumi and others as they begin the editing process.

Launching Missional Communities

Lastly, We are praying and preparing to launch a Missional Community in our neighborhood. Please pray for us as we listen to the spirit’s leading over the next few weeks. Also pray for a member of our church, Takumi (we call him Big Taku) who will be joining us in this endeavor.
