Praying in Community for the Community
Praying with others is a wonderful way of building community, confessing your struggles and serving others within the church body through prayer. In Karis, we believe that God hears the cries of his people and answers our prayers faithfully. This is why we are now offering even more chances to pray together. Karis is now looking for new prayer groups to start praying in the city and for the city each week. These groups will meet in addition to the groups that already pray at Imago at 6 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Although it can be difficult to carve out time in our already busy schedules, Karis would like to encourage everyone to take part in this opportunity for community and spiritual growth.
"What used to be a chore has become a cornerstone of my week," says Daniel Glosson, who regularly attends a Karis prayer group. "I am continually in awe of God's willingness to listen to His people and am so grateful to spend time each week in prayer with others."
Whether you love praying for others or hope to make prayer a more regular part of your walk with God, participating in small prayer groups can help you learn to pray boldly and earnestly for a fallen world.
"I wake up early every Tuesday morning, before my kids and husband, and drive to Imago because I know I need to pray with others for God to move in our city, to move in Jefferson City, and Brazil, and Japan and beyond," says Kim Still. "I pray because I hope and believe that if we continually go before God in prayer, asking Him to move in Columbia, asking Him to move in the lives of our friends and family, asking Him to make His glory known in this city, He will."
Investing more time in prayer also allows God to work in our hearts in incredible ways. By believing in and calling upon His faithfulness, we as a church can become more faithful.
"Regularly coming together for focused prayer with other believers has challenged me to go deeper and wider in my personal prayers. It is such an encouragement to see God moving others to pray for our own hearts, our neighbors, our city, our country and our world," says Brooke Danielsen.
