Should you go to Brazil in 2014?
Brazil is a country of contrasts. An emerging country in the developing world, many of Brazil’s citizens live in first-world poverty. It is a country of astonishing beauty and astonishing corruption. Brazil is positioned to attract thousands of visitors from around the world as it hosts the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. While in Brazil, we work with Restore Brazil to help fulfill their mission to see gospel churches planted across Brazil.
While in Brazil we will work with local church plants in the Rio de Janeiro area. In the past we have held Vacation Bible Schools in favelas, hosted a one-day conference for area pastors and church planters, and shared our testimonies in the local churches. Many Karis men got their first chance to preach during Brazil mission trips. We have visited favelas and built relationships there. We have encouraged and been encouraged by the saints at work in the local church plants in Brazil.
Three reasons you should go:
1. Your view of God will grow. He is a global God and the church is so much more than what we see pictured in America.
2. See what you’re supporting! Karis gives to missions in Brazil, Japan and elsewhere. When we see the needs and the work being done, it encourages us to give faithfully and with joy.
3. Short-term trips are where long-term missionaries start. Going breaks down our fearful or romanticized views of missions and it suddenly becomes something that you COULD actually do.
Over the past few years, teams from Karis have been able to experience firsthand the amazing revival that is taking place in Brazil.
