Recommended: Parenting by the Book

When Dr. Bruce Ware joined us for Theology Weekend last fall, he recommended a book to me: Parenting by the Book by John Rosemond.  I greatly enjoyed it.  In the book, he argues that Postmodern Psychological Parenting that began in the 70s has destroyed American parents and children.  His point is that Grandma and Grandpa who raised most of our parents had less poorly behaved children and less stress in their own lives due to their consistent discipline.  This is a great book.  Rosemond can be a bit blunt and harsh.  It has a polemical feel at times.  But it's really, really good stuff.  I'd highly recommend this book, but think it would be best read alongside another great book that deals better with matters of the heart: Shepherding A Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp.
