When Iran recently captured some British marines, they had the opportunity to point out a serious problem in the west. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said this in his address after the capture: “You will know that among the detainees there is one lady who is a mother of a child. Why is it that the most difficult work like patrolling at sea should be given to a woman?

“Why is there no respect for motherhood? Why does the West not value its women?”

Good question, sir. I happen to be married to a wife who went through 6 weeks of Air Force boot camp before being kicked out, while a unit leader, for having bad eyesight (yes, military recruiting is corrupt). But, he's right. What kind of culture are we that, instead of protecting women, sends them to the frontlines?
